Supercritical water desalination (SCWD) of multi-component brines

The phase behaviour of two model multi-component salt-water mixtures (NaCl-KCl-H2O and NaCl-Na2SO4-H2O) was investigated for the application supercritical water desalination (SCWD). experimental investigation a two-step procedure starting with qualitative analysis followed by quantitative measurements. experiments served as screening step to visually inspect behaviour. results NaCl-KCl-H2O, showed similarities in between salts, which led assumption that ternary mixture behaved an ideal binary solutions. equilibrium concentrations SCW could therefore be predicted using models respective salts accounting feed concentrations. Based on NaCl-Na2SO4-H2O, divided into three regions. third region suitable SCWD, precipitated (Na2SO4) dissolved hydrothermal brine (NaCl), forming vapour-liquid equilibrium.
